Banarasi is the saree we sell most of, and the one we argue about the most. A good kadhua takes a karigar three months on a pit loom in Madanpura. A bad copy takes an afternoon on a powerloom in Surat. The shelf in our Jubilee Hills atelier sits firmly on one side of that line. Every Banarasi here is pure mulberry, woven by hand in Varanasi, and signed on the reverse of the pallu by the person who wove it.
Pure mulberry warp, pure mulberry weft, real silver zari (it's silver dipped in gold, so it won't tarnish). Kadhua is the version where each motif is thrown by hand, thread by thread. Jangla packs the body with florals. Jamdani lays motif inlay so fine the saree feels translucent. Silk Mark on every piece. Three weaver families in Madanpura and Pilikothi we've worked with for nearly fifteen years, plus a few looms in Lallapura. That's it. No wholesale stock, no middlemen, no mystery.
Everyday Banarasi from forty-five thousand. Reception-weight kadhua between one and a half and three lakh. Bridal Shikargah, Kimkhwab and tissue brocades from three to about six. The same piece in a designer-couture window will usually be twice this; we work a step away from the loom, so we can keep prices honest.

Silk Mark hologram and burn-test on a single weft thread, pure mulberry burns to a fine ash and smells of burnt hair; powerloom polyester melts to a plastic bead. Every Banarasi on our floor also carries the karigar's signature on the reverse of the pallu.
Kadhua is the fully hand-thrown Banarasi, each motif woven thread-by-thread, the highest grade. Distinct from cut-work (where extra-weft threads are cut on the reverse) and powerloom copies.
