What 'handloom Banarasi' actually means

A handloom Banarasi takes between 15 days and six months on a pit-loom in Varanasi. Two weavers work together, one operates the loom, one manages the jala (the pattern card). The result is a saree where the reverse shows long float threads, the zari is slightly irregular, the motifs are inset by hand (kadhua), and the silk carries a soft, warm hand. A powerloom Banarasi reproduces the front but cannot reproduce the reverse, that is the single most reliable test.

The weaves we keep

Kadhua, the most intricate, with each motif individually inset. Jangla, dense all-over jaal patterns, our most popular bridal weave. Jamdani, light, transparent, festive. Tanchoi, silk-on-silk satin weave. Tissue, woven with a fine zari weft for a metallic shimmer. Organza Banarasi, light enough for a summer reception. Cutwork, graphic, modern, often chosen by younger brides.

How we price Banarasi sarees

A daily-wear handloom Banarasi begins around ₹15,000. A bridal kadhua Banarasi in pure silver-and-gold zari with a six-month weave can reach ₹4 lakh and beyond. We always show you the certificate from the loom, and you are welcome to ask for the burn test on a single thread.

Hyderabad patrons visit the Jubilee Hills atelier. For our NRI patrons (US, UK, UAE, Singapore, Australia, Canada), we conduct private video viewings and ship insured with FedEx/DHL. The whole experience, from first call to delivery, usually takes 7 to 12 days for ready pieces, 4 to 8 weeks for archive sourcing.
