Chanderi, the summer ethereal
Woven in Chanderi, Madhya Pradesh, in three classic blends, pure silk, silk-cotton, and cotton-silk, with woven gold or silver zari butis scattered across a translucent body. The saree drapes like mist; the pleats are weightless.
Best for: summer weddings, daytime ceremonies, the Hyderabad heat, women who want light, romantic drape. Avoid in monsoon, sheer silk and humidity do not get along.
Maheshwari, the everyday classic
Woven in Maheshwar on the banks of the Narmada since the 18th century, Maheshwari is denser, typically 60% cotton, 40% silk, with a flat, dignified drape. The signature is the reversible border (the contrast colour shows on the reverse side, so the saree can be worn either way) and the five-stripe pallu.
Best for: workwear, travel, day-to-evening dressing, women who want a saree that holds its shape through long hours.
