The NRI Trousseau Calendar, Nine Months to the Mandap
Most NRI brides we work with begin their trousseau between nine and twelve months before the wedding. Less than that and you are paying rush charges on embroidery and air freight; more than that and you are storing finished silk through monsoon season unnecessarily. Here is the calendar that works.
We allocate a single senior consultant to each NRI bride for the full nine months. One WhatsApp thread, one email chain, one human who knows your trousseau end to end.
Month 9 to first WhatsApp and palette letter
Send us your wedding date, ceremonies (haldi / mehendi / sangeet / wedding / reception / cocktail / pheras), city, time of year, and rough total budget. Within 48 hours you receive a palette letter, colour direction for each ceremony, suggested weaves, suggested price-bands, and three to five reference photographs from our archive.
Month 8 to first video viewing and shortlists
A 60 to 90 minute private video viewing. Eight to twelve sarees draped live across all ceremonies. You shortlist 4 to 6 pieces; we hold them in the archive for you. You return to your partner, your mother and your aunts and discuss for a week.
Month 7 to confirmation and bridal blouse pattern
You confirm the shortlist. We invoice, you pay 50% advance. You either courier us a well-fitting reference blouse (return-paid) or your local tailor takes our 16-point body chart. We pattern-cut all blouses now, even those that will not be embroidered until month 4.
Months 6 to 4 to bridal blouse embroidery and second viewing
Hand zardozi, kundan or aari embroidery on bridal blouses runs four to eight weeks. We send you weekly progress photographs. In month 5, we hold a second video viewing for the remaining mehendi/sangeet/cocktail sarees and the reception piece. Most brides add 2 to 3 pieces here.
Months 3 to 2 to muslin trial and final fittings
For the bridal blouse, we ship a muslin trial to your country (insured, ten days). You try it on, video us, we adjust. Final embroidery is completed only after the muslin clears. Other blouses are stitched and shipped in batches to amortise shipping cost.
Month 1 to trousseau crate and dress rehearsal
The full trousseau ships in a single muslin-lined crate by insured DHL Express, five working days door-to-door, with a written packing slip, care card, and the karigar's signature on each piece. We hold a final video dress rehearsal one week before the wedding, drape on you live, and adjust pinning and pleating notes for your local stylist.
